St Stephen’s School’s WA Charity Direct (WACD) student committee has gifted two Perth support agencies $20,000 in funding, to support the charities work with those in need in the local WA community.

Representatives from People Who Care – Starting Over Support and St Stephen’s School on behalf of Cystic Fibrosis WA graciously accepted WACD’s $10,000 funding donations at a special morning tea hosted by the cross-campus student committee at St Stephen’s School’s Duncraig Campus.

People Who Care – Starting Over Support Service Coordinator Kathie Mitchell said the funding would help individuals and families who had experienced homelessness or domestic abuse settle into their new homes.

With no access to government funding, the agency relies on donations of goods, services and funds to support vulnerable people by giving them furniture, clothes and other essentials for their homes.

“We provide the front door mat, the back door mat and everything in between,” Mrs Mitchell said.

“Imagine opening a front door to a house with nothing, no chair to sit on or bed to sleep in. Through the support of folks like you (WACD and St Stephen’s School’s WACD student committee) we can support people in need, we can provide hope that things will get better,” she said.

Mrs Mitchell said the funding would be used to purchase children’s mattresses and partly fund the organisation’s Seniors program.

“We are very grateful. Thank you for the love. We believe we change lives, but you do that too – thank you.”

Due to health concerns surrounding COVID-19, Cystic Fibrosis WA representatives could not attend the morning tea, however sent a message of thanks to students and WACD.

“Please offer our sincerest thanks to WACD and the St Stephen’s School WACD student committee for this funding, and what it will make possible for those living with Cystic Fibrosis.”

“These funds will go a long way toward alleviating some of the financial stress associated with living with CF for our clients. It will provide relief, hope and dignity.”

St Stephen’s School’s WACD student committee has donated more than $100,000 to those in need since the inception of the WACD School Program in 2017. In collaboration with WACD, selected students work throughout the year to research beneficiaries, giving them an opportunity to serve in their community by giving their time, effort and resources to those less fortunate.
