Sport
St Stephen’s School’s Physical Education program develops the whole person – physically, mentally and socially. Our students are encouraged to pursue their interests, adopt healthy habits and build an understanding of the importance of keeping active in day-to-day life.
Our Physical Education program develops students’ skills in specific sports, general fitness and health as well as their attitudes and effort toward keeping active and healthy.
Specialist teaching staff inspire students to strive for their best, encourage positive teamwork and good sportsmanship. Students are encouraged to try new sports and to motivate one another in class and on the sports fields.
Students can take part in a range of specialised sports programs including surfing, swimming, triathlon, field sports, athletics and cross-country, plus all the standard school sports such as cricket, netball and soccer. Secondary students can compete in interhouse and interschool competitions across the school year in each of these sports. St Stephen’s School also provides opportunities for students to play Australian Rules Football, soccer, basketball, netball, volleyball, tennis, rugby and cricket at a competitive level.
The School is a member of the Associated & Catholic College of WA (ACC), Coastal Associated Schools (CAS) and takes part in the School Sports WA Champion School Sports (CSS) carnivals.
Students competing at a high level in their chosen sport can apply to be part of specialist sports development programs at School. The Athlete Development Program is a specialised program delivered in partnership with Athletic Institute (AI). The ADP is currently open to selected students in Year 7 and 8 at the Carramar campus, and Year 7 at the Duncraig campus, acting as a precursor to the School’s Elite Athlete Program in the senior years. The Elite Athlete Program assists Year 11 and 12 students who compete at state or national level in balancing the demands of an elite sporting career and their school studies. We do this by working collaboratively with students, their teachers and families to develop a supportive learning framework. Read more about the Elite Athlete Program.
