Two goals in her first game!
Not a bad start for Karry Plummer – PE teacher and Assistant Dean of Alethea at the Duncraig Campus and new recruit to the West Perth Football Club.
Karry has been at St Stephen’s School for eight years now and has been coaching the school Australian Rules football team for the last seven years. Karry’s achievement in her first game for West Perth is even more incredible given that this is only her second season of playing Aussie rules.
“I played last year at North Beach Amateur Football Club. I was going to start two years earlier but broke my ankle, so it delayed the start but I’m glad to be out there now. I was inspired to start playing by watching the development of the AFLW over the years and coaching younger players.”
Karry was lucky enough to be sought out by the West Perth club, and after three selection rounds, she was officially appointed to the training squad in January this year, playing ruck and full forward wearing number 29.
“In my first game at West Perth I kicked two goals, and we won the game, so I got to stand in the middle of the team song at the end of the game which was an incredible way to start my career at the club.”
This is only the beginning for Karry. “Playing AFLW wouldn’t be off the tables, in my mind, and I’d also like to look into coaching higher level women’s football when I have more time in my schedule .”
Of course, the burning question among footy fans is who you barrack for. “I’m a big supporter of AFLW and the Fremantle team but my favourite player in the league is Katie Brennan from Richmond so they are a close second.”
