St Stephen’s School has played an important role in the personal and professional life of Chris Scott (Carramar Campus) … and we’re delighted to say that he has had a big impact on our community, too!

If you’ve attended a Night of Giving Thanks or any musical or theatrical event at either campus over the last seven years, then Chris has been the technical lead that has made it all come together.

Chris started in Year 7 at the Carramar campus in 2010, and left at the end of Year 10 to pursue his passion.

“I’ve always been drawn to the technical side of theatre, especially lighting. Even in primary school I knew what I wanted my career path to be. When other kids were drawing houses, dogs and flowers, I was drawing stages and lights”.

Chris’ time at St Stephen’s School helped grow his passion into a profession.

“I did operator work at a lot of events at school, and it was this experience that led to me getting my first job”.

“After school I went straight into working full-time with a local production company doing all aspects of technical operation including sound, lighting and staging. It was a steep learning curve, but I absolutely loved it. I knew I had made the right decision”.

After an intense four years the opportunity to return to St Stephen’s School as Theatre Operator lured Chris back to his alma mater.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision. I absolutely loved my time at St Stephen’s as a student and was excited to come back as a member of staff.”

“I was always supported and nurtured as a student at St Stephen’s so it was great to be able to do the same for students interested in technical operations and theatre when I was managing the theatre”.

Chris spent more than seven years as Theatre and Technical Services Manager in our school and was not only responsible for the smooth running of our internal events, but also worked hard to establish the Duncraig Theatre as an extremely popular venue for groups like the City of Joondalup and the Perth Youth Theatre.

Mid-2023 Chris came across a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the premier entertainment venue, Crown Theatre as Head Technical Operator – Lighting.

“One of my first shows was ‘All Shook Up’ and right now we’re working on ‘Rocky Horror Show’ while prepping for Mary Poppins. It’s been an absolute whirlwind since I started in late June”.

“I love that no two days are the same. We can be creative and transport people to another place and time through the shows we produce”.

While Chris’ days are incredibly busy he loves to spend time with his friends, family and little canine mate, Jonty whom Chris adopted a few years ago.
