Teagan Criddle’s (Rogers) curiosity about human behaviour has led her on a career path that now sees her dealing with people across the world in her day-to-day working life.

After graduating from Duncraig in 2002, Teagan started a degree in Psychology but soon decided she wanted to explore the corporate world, and hasn’t looked back since.

“I got my first break as a shutdown coordinator in the mining industry and have been following my feet ever since,” she says.

“In my early career I got really interested in why people choose the careers and employers that they do, what makes people stay, what makes them leave. This has always informed my career choices and is now my specialisation.”

For the past few years Teagan has led a team that specialises in strategic talent acquisition and recruitment marketing in the mining industry.

“I have a passion for data and I help figure out how we are going to find and attract all the people required to keep Rio Tinto productive. I’ve been lucky enough to work in this space for about 10 years.”

“In a single day I can go from planning a hiring strategy in Serbia, to designing a recruitment campaign in Busselton to leading a discussion with senior leaders about how best to improve our diversity. Never a dull moment!”

In their spare time, Teagan and her husband Chris unwind in their small backyard urban farm just outside the city, growing fruit and vegies to use in their cottage kitchen. Their rescue cats, Harry and Oscar, keep watch over the farm produce and, thankfully, are yet to help themselves to any of the pickings!

When Teagan looks back on her time at St Stephen’s School nearly two decades ago, she says she always felt like her creativity was nurtured during school, something that has played a big role in her working life.

She encourages students at the school today to always look at the bigger picture.

“It’s ok if things don’t go to plan, sometimes that’s exactly where the opportunities are waiting.”
