On December 10, 2025 the Federal Government’s Social Media Restrictions will come into effect. From this date identified social media platforms will have to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians aged under 16 from creating or keeping an account.

Two social media platforms have recently been added to the restricted list – Kick and Reddit. 

The current platforms that will be affected by the restrictions are:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Kick
  • Reddit
  • Snapchat
  • Threads
  • Tik Tok
  • X (Formerly Twitter)
  • YouTube
