From Sunrise to Sunset, The Rite Journey Homecoming
The journey that began with the sunrise at Sorrento Beach came full circle as the sun set over the Duncraig Campus, when parents and mentors gathered to celebrate the Rite Journey Homecoming Ceremony.
The evening marked the end of a transformative year for our Year 9 students. Throughout the Rite Journey program, students have been encouraged to reflect on who they are and the kind of people they want to become. The year has been filled with challenges designed to build confidence, self-awareness and resilience from a high and low-ropes course to a 24-hour solo camp where students spent time in quiet reflection away from technology and distractions.
During the ceremony, students showcased the projects they completed alongside their mentors. Each project reflected their individuality and growth; from completing a triathalon, learning to sew and perfecting family recipes to earning a Recreational Skipper’s Ticket or coaching netball to younger students.
One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came as the students placed into water a piece of dissolvable paper they had written on, each carrying something they wished to leave behind. Watching it slowly disappear was a simple but powerful symbol of change and moving forward.
Rite Journey Coordinator Sian Freeman said it has been inspiring to see students embrace every challenge throughout the year.
“The Rite Journey gives students the space to reflect on who they are and the adults they want to become” she said. “Watching their confidence and self-awareness grow through the challenges, mentor projects and the Homecoming has been incredibly rewarding.”
Congratulations to our Year 9 students on completing the Rite Journey and thank you to the mentors, families and teachers who supported them along the way.
