Rachel Phillips
Rachel Phillips may be one of our youngest Alumni, but she is already flying high in her burgeoning circus career.
Duncraig Class of 2023 Alumni Rachel left school as a Year 10 this year when she decided to pursue her love of performing and circus in a professional capacity.
“I’ve always loved performing. I started acting classes at five years of age and continued for many years. Then I discovered circus arts, which combines my love of performing, challenging myself physically and being creative,” Rachel says.
Her career goals got an amazing boost in July when she successfully auditioned for the National Youth Circus, the Flying Fruit Circus. She has been instructing and training at Cirquest Circus School since leaving St Stephen’s School and will move to Albury NSW next year to attend the Flying Fruit Circus.
“I’m really excited about all the opportunities in the program. It includes training up to 20 hours a week in elite level technical skills and artistic learning, as well as the opportunity to perform locally and nationally,” she says.
Rachel reflects on her time at St Stephen’s School, saying she felt cared for and supported but the chance to pursue her dream career was an opportunity she could not pass on.
“Do I have any tips for current students about life after school? Trust yourself, as no one knows you better than you do. When you find something you love, do everything you can to pursue it.”
