Potential unlocked, no matter the pathway
“Success isn’t about how your life looks to others. It’s about how it feels to you” these wise words from Michelle Obama perfectly summarises St Stephen’s School’s approach when helping students select their individual learning pathway in senior secondary school.
Every year students are encouraged to select the pathway that is right for them, whether that be an ATAR, VET or General combined pathway. This holistic approach to their education has resulted in some incredible accomplishments for our Class of 2024 and we are delighted to share some of the remarkable WACE results achieved by our students.
Twenty-seven of our ATAR students recorded scores above 90, placing them in the top 10 per cent of all academic performers in the State. Of these students, 12 achieved an ATAR of 95 and above. A full list can be found below. Statistics and numbers are one thing but what does this mean for the students themselves?
At Carramar, Shelby Sirmans, the Qualitative Dux, displayed focus and determination throughout her studies. She plans to study law and commerce through a Navy-funded program, aiming to join the Navy as a lawyer or logistics officer. Shelby credits her teachers for their support, saying “They were always there to ensure I wasn’t draining myself.”
At Duncraig, Tiaan Klopper, the Duncraig Academic Dux Proximae overcame personal challenges to achieve academic success. Tiaan also credited his teachers’ dedication saying, “their unwavering support and dedication made all the difference”. He’s now looking forward to pursuing a double degree in Mechanical Engineering and Commerce with aspirations of a career in investment banking and private equity.
Carramar student, Lucas Bronnum-Lee was the top performing student cross-campus, scoring a remarkable 99.65 while Alexandria Faraone topped the Duncraig campus with an ATAR of 99.2.
Our Vocational Education and Training (VET) students also had great success this year with 140 Certificate IIs, 100 Certificate IIIs and 65 Certificate IVs being awarded.
Leah McGaffin, Duncraig’s Vocational Dux, found that breaking her study sessions into small, consistent sessions and keeping distractions – like her phone – out of reach made a significant difference. Leah is currently working full-time with the WA Police, gaining valuable experience while considering her next steps.
Eden Gill, Vocational Dux Proximae at Duncraig, emphasised the importance of staying focused and motivated. “Thinking about my dream life and career kept me going,” she said. Eden is now pursuing a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, a natural progression from her school studies in Animal Science and Laboratory Skills.
“These results are a reflection not only of the students’ hard work over the past year but also their commitment throughout their educational journey. Congratulations to the Class of 2024, we are excited to see the bright futures that lie ahead for each of you.” said St Stephen’s School Principal, Mrs Donella Beare.
Mrs Beare would like to encourage graduating students to stay connected and remain active members of the St Stephen’s School community through the alumni program.
