Language is no barrier
To look at these pictures you wouldn’t think these students had only just met … and while our guests have some English our students speak no Japanese. This was no barrier to roaring laughter and great fun playing Japanese cards, learning origami and even having a go at the climbing wall!
This visit by 18 students from Kishogan High School is part of a broader international student program where St Stephen’s School hosts international students on study tours and immersion experiences at both campuses.
Enrolments Manager, Rolene Nel, co-ordinates the program and is full of praise for the benefits to all students.
“Immersions and study tours not only help the international students improve their English proficiency, but also helps our students to have a personal experience of people their own age who have different life experiences. Over time we see this have a major positive impact in our school community with students having greater appreciation of other cultures and perspectives”.
Hosting and getting to know students from countries such as Japan and China provides a unique cultural and educational experience for our students to learn about the world and develop their own global perspectives.
During Term 3 St Stephen’s School is proud to be hosting students on immersion study from China at the Duncraig campus and Japan at the Carramar campus. Both campuses will host study tour groups from Dalton High School (Japan).
The Japanese students will get a taste of the Australian curriculum and different sport and cultural activities and share with our students their knowledge of sushi making.
