A Journey of Connection, Courage and Growth
Service is at the heart of St Stephen’s School, shaping not only what our students learn but who they become. Our service learning programs encourage students to step beyond their own experiences and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
In secondary school students have the opportunity to travel for service and this year’s Kimberley Service Learning Tour offered 18, Year 8 students the chance to connect, contribute and grow through a week of cultural immersion, hands‑on service and unforgettable adventure. From sunrise swims across the Manning River to exploring Mimbi Caves, hiking gorges and spotting crocodiles at Windjana, students embraced every challenge with courage and enthusiasm. Their time at Manjali School was a standout, forming friendships through basketball, weaving, art and cultural learning, including a smoking ceremony and a session on Indigenous astronomy.
Service played a central role, with students supporting Feed the Little Children in Broome, which was an eye‑opening experience that deepened their understanding of community needs and gratitude for their own circumstances.

In their final reflection, teachers Ms Bree Paice and Mr Levon Preston praised the group’s resilience, kindness and willingness to learn, sharing that the students “impressed us more than words can describe.”
The trip may be over, but the lessons, connections and memories will continue to shape their worldviews long after returning home.
