The start of Term 3 saw some exciting changes at St Stephen’s School with two new Heads of Campus welcomed, Mr Bennet Andrews (Carramar Head of Campus), and Ms Rosemarie Dunn (Duncraig Head of Campus).

Ms Dunn and Mr Andrews give us an overview of their first few weeks in their new roles.

Duncraig Campus life with Ms Rosemarie Dunn

What have your first few weeks in your new role been like?

The first few weeks at St Stephen’s School have flown by.  Within my role I get to be part of ELC, Primary and Secondary which is very special. The vibe is dynamic, inclusive and warm.  Staff, students and parents have been so engaging and the positive personal stories shared have been heartfelt.  I’m amazed with the long connections many have as St Stephen’s School students, now parents, and/or teaching staff at the School.  The relationships are genuine and the learning and myriad of opportunities for students showcases holistic education, service and consideration for others.

I have had a wealth of support and enjoyed learning more about the opportunities for all students as they progress through the years and look forward to being part of the St Stephen’s School journey.

What has been the highlight so far?

For me the highlight in any day is when I see students in action in and out of the classroom, as well as having conversations with staff and the collegiality within teams. I do have a favourite day of the week!  Every Friday I start my day at the ELC, and I am always welcomed with a wave and warm smile. The children are always so open in sharing what they have been learning that week and even what they have had for breakfast.  A pocket full of joy!

What are you looking forward to?

I have to say I look forward to knowing everyone’s name and the best way to navigate the campuses.

What is your favourite place on campus and why?

There are so many beautiful places on campus.  At the moment I enjoy visiting the Primary Village and seeing students reading, playing chess together, getting ready for the day and leading worship and assemblies.  A wonderful community space is right outside my office in Student Services.  I have the pleasure of the view of the St Stephen’s School Memorial Garden and now the leaves are blooming and awaiting the flowers to come with Spring. All this is offset with the blue skies and gums in the background.

What have your first few weeks in your new role been like?

I have been welcomed in every part of the School, so I’d have to say it feels like coming home to familiar faces, even though I’m meeting many members of the community for the first time. There is a great pride in the School which shines through in all of my interactions with our people. I’ve enjoyed it immensely.

What has been the highlight so far?

There are highlights every day, but I would have to say the moment our Year 9 cohort moved almost as one to introduce themselves to a visiting cohort of 23 students from a high school in Japan was pretty impressive. It was a warm, genuine moment that spoke volumes about our community and the quality of the people in it.

What are you looking forward to?

The first day of primary school or high school for any child is a special one, so I look forward to witnessing those first steps onto the campus in 2023.

Mostly, I am looking forward to celebrating our successes. A win looks different to everyone, and I know that in any aspect of our School experience, is it also a hard-earned joy. I know there will be many great moments ahead, acknowledging the incredible efforts of students and staff.

What is your favourite place on campus and why?

The sense of peace and purpose all around me when walking across the Green makes that place hard to beat, but it comes in a close second to our Early Years area. It is intentionally and meticulously curated, warm and welcoming, and the staff and students working there take it to another level. There is definitely symbiosis occurring! There are many learning spaces around the campus that make me want to become a student again, but none more so than the Early Years classrooms and play areas – and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong after a visit!
