Guiding Children Towards Organised Independence
This term, we’re thrilled to welcome national speaker, youth coach and author Claire Eaton to our Parent Series, where she will lead a session titled Guiding Children Towards Organised Independence. With more than 35 years of experience working with young people and families, Claire brings a wealth of practical strategies and heartfelt insight in helping parents to foster independence through social and emotional health, habits and routines.
Claire’s career began in education, where she served as a teacher and deputy principal across a range of Western Australian schools. Over time, she noticed a growing need for proactive wellbeing support and made the shift into youth and parent coaching in 2008. Her work now focuses on building resilience and confidence before challenges arise, using what she calls a “prevention-focused” approach to wellbeing. “We can’t underestimate the value of building strong foundations before challenges appear,” Claire says.
When asked about her upcoming session, Claire says “I’ll be talking about brain change that impacts executive function development, the dopamine cycle and why this can make young people appear lazy at home!” Parents can expect to walk away with “helpful ways to start teaching and building organisation habits to foster independence, and tips to support smooth independent transition between home and school which will take the pressure off everyone and encourage children to step up, practice routines, habits, organised thinking and ways to feel more independent.”
Above all, Claire is optimistic about this generation of young people. “Their entrepreneurial spirit, openness about mental health and ability to support one another is remarkable,” she says. “They give me great hope for the future.” We’re looking forward to sharing this special evening with our parent community.
