Embracing ‘firsts’
Primary school is about much more than learning how to add, subtract, read and write. While these academic skills are essential, the journey from preschooler to preteen is an adventure filled with milestones that shape each child’s growth and confidence. This term has been filled with exciting ‘firsts’ that create lasting memories for our students.
For Carramar’s Pre-Primary students, the thrill of the term started with their very first adventure on a school bus. The moment they stepped aboard, eyes wide with excitement, the bus became more than a mode of transport, it felt like a rite of passage, the journey into becoming ‘big kids’.
As they peered out the windows, pointing at cars, trucks, and familiar landmarks, the journey itself quickly became the highlight of their week. For many, the bus ride was just as exhilarating as arriving at Scitech, where a day of hands-on science and exploration awaited them.
Meanwhile, Carramar’s Year 1s took on an adventure of their own, their first school camp. They began their day of fun at Rio Tinto Naturescape, Kings Park, a unique nature playground that lets children immerse themselves in the outdoors. There, nature truly was their playground. Students climbed over rocks, balanced on tree logs and tested their bravery on the rope tangles.
After a day of exploring, they returned to the Primary Forum for a cozy camp experience, complete with pizza, pyjamas and a movie.
For many, it was their first night away from home, a new experience that inspired both bravery and independence. Lying in their sleeping bags, chatting and laughing with friends, they ended the night with the warmth of friendship and a newfound readiness for even more adventures.
At St Stephen’s School we cherish these firsts, knowing that they foster growth and a positive school experience. We are thrilled to be part of these moments that bring so much excitement and laughter to our school community and we can’t wait for more unforgettable experiences ahead.
