St Stephen's School student chases Olympic dream

ST STEPHEN’S SCHOOL year 11 student Caitlyn Ribbons’ Olympic dream is a step closer after she was recently selected in the Australian Olympic Hopes team for sprint kayaking.

Ms Ribbons, who has been kayaking since she was 12, achieved selection in the Under 17s Australian Women’s squad following strong performances in the National Team Trials competition held in New South Wales in March.

“It has been my goal for a long time so it was a thrill to be selected into the national team,” Ms Ribbons said.

“I have trained very hard to get this far so I am very happy.”

The Duncraig student, who trains eight times per week, will travel to the Czech Republic this September to compete in the Olympic Hopes Regatta in Račice.

“I am very excited to wear the green and gold and have the chance to compete at a world class level,” she said.
