Carramar Campus Opens

The new campus of St Stephen's was officially opened on 19 February, 2001, at a ceremony on the new site in Carramar, with His Excellency, the Governor of Western Australia, Lieutenant John Sanderson, officiating.

Mrs Lorraine Paul, Chair of Council, spoke of the history of the development, saying that there had been some frustrating initial planning years, until mid 1999 when the current site became available. Negotiations went ahead quite rapidly from there, with construction commencing in May 2000 and the first students commencing at the new campus on 2 February, 2001.

The Principal of the School, Rev Gavin Collinson, read a message from the Federal Minister for Education, Dr David Kemp. The Uniting Church Moderator, Mrs Elizabeth Burns, prayed a prayer of Commissioning joined by representatives of students, staff and parents, Rev Stephen Larkin, who is establishing Carramar Uniting Church at the campus gave the bebdiction. Students from St Stephen's Duncraig also took part in the ceremony.

It was a moving ceremony, aptly drawing together all those who have worked so hard in creating this new campus and this new phase of St Stephen's School here in our northern community.
